All The Article Furniture That Helped Make My Mom’s Condo So Beautiful (& Insight Into Our Process!)

If you’re following me on Instagram (or HGTV on TikTok!), then you already know about my newest happy home: a surprise condo for my mom. What you might still be wondering? Where we got all the beautiful furniture.

My mom is the BEST grandma to my daughter, Hazel, and so when a condo became available right up the street, we knew we had to jump on it. We surprised her on Mother's Day, and then together, came up with a design plan to create her perfect condo (more on our design process below).

The rest, as they say, is history - and also documented on social, so everyone could join in on the fun. ☺

Of course, my favorite part of any reno is the big reveal - and thanks to a great team and great finishing pieces from Article, it was amazing (yes, a few tears were shed!).

The Living Space

My goal for the living room was to make it feel cozy, unique, and personal to my mom. We made everything come together by using lots of different textures and layers, along with a few high-quality, functional pieces from Article.

Solna Atelier Ivory Sofa Bed

Hard to believe a sofa this gorgeous folds into a mattress for sleeping, but it does - making it the perfect space-saving choice for a one-bedroom condo. With its soft fabric, luxe loose back cushions, and solid steel frame, the Solna Atelier Ivory Sofa Bed was a no-brainer. 

Equa Brushed Brass Coffee Table

Round tables are always beautiful, but when you’ve got toddlers running around, they’re kind of a necessity, too. That’s why I was excited to find the Equa Brushed Brass Coffee Table, made with gorgeous electroplated steel and featuring a rounded brass metal top and perforated cylinder base. 

I really love the brushed brass here, because it adds a new texture to the space. And it’s got lots of space for holding plants, books, and, you know, coffee.

Tana Stool

One of the (many) reasons we used the Tana Stool as a side table here: made with certified teak and finished in a distinctive, timeworn look, it also added a new texture to the room. As a designer, I’m always looking for ways to bring in new materials that add dimension like this does.

Madera Oak 65” Sideboard

Right away, my mom knew she wanted extra storage to be a goal in our condo design. And right away, I knew I wanted the Madera Oak 65” Sideboard. Constructed of solid wood, this 3 door sideboard has adjustable shelves - super convenient.

The Dining Space

Since we’re working with limited space, we had to make the most of my mom’s living and dining area. Here’s how!

Chanel Volcanic Gray Dining Armchair

I LOVE these dining armchairs. They’re made with solid wood and wood veneer in a Walnut stain, so you know they’re built to last (just like all Article products!). And with the comfortable foam padded seat, arms, and back, these can easily double as additional seating when company comes. Gotta love any furniture that does double duty.

The Bedroom

The bedroom just might be my favorite room in the condo. We wanted to create a calm and tranquil space, and we’re so happy with the results.

Gabriola Ivory Bouclé Lounge Chair

For a bedroom to really be a retreat, you need a little reading nook. The Gabriola Ivory Bouclé Lounge Chair is so pretty and sooo comfy, adding just the right vibes to the room. It’s made with a solid wood frame and high density foam with polyester filling, so again - built to last. It’s also got sinuous spring tension, a tight back cushion, and a loose seat cushion (with a removable cover), making it the perfect space to curl up after a long day. 

The Patio

I really wanted to elevate the patio. If you do it right, patios can feel like you’re adding a whole new room to your house. And the right furniture really helps. 

Callais Lily White Sofa

Isn’t this sofa dreamy? It’s made with solid Acacia wood that will weather to a soft gray over time. It’s also got two shelves built-in - perfect for small spaces. 

Calova Side Table

Finally, we rounded everything out (literally) with the Calova Side Table - isn’t it cute? It’s got a solid Acacia top and a power-coated aluminum frame, and it’s great for indoor or outdoor use. And again, I love the toddler-friendly round edges.

Our Design Process

Renovating this condo with my mom was a great reminder of what it’s all about - family! It will definitely be one of my favorite memories for years to come.

I also loved being able to share everything from start to finish, giving everyone an insight into the design process I follow with each and every client. Basically, before I rip out any flooring or smash any counters (you know - the fun stuff), we make a design plan first - one that we stick to.

That means the first step in any home project, big or small, is to determine your design style. When you’ve got that nailed down, every decision becomes much easier. 

For my mom, we figured out that her design style was ‘Sophisticated Surf.’ But of course, everyone’s got their own unique tastes. That’s why I devote a whole chapter in my book, House Story, to figuring out yours (don’t worry - with a little guidance, it’s pretty easy!).
